It is Daylight Savings time this weekend. I like this weekend. For me, it means we are one day closer to Spring. One day closer to green grass and warm sun. One day closer to bike rides and picnics and longer days. It is pure anticipation.
I know I am not telling you anything new when I say the winter has been long. The dark, cold, evenings and so many indoor recesses for my kids. But this weekend is a promise of things to come
Admittedly, it is ONLY March 4 and we know what that means. We can’t put the toboggans away just yet. We know there is still the potential of another snowstorm and I’m sure Mother Nature has a few icy cold nights still up her sleeve.
We’ve got warm soups and slow cooker meals still in rotation at our house. And on Sundays we make it An Event. Fine china, silver, fancy drinks and candle light. The kids love these meals. It is actually pretty comical how polite and conversational they are with the lights dimmed and only taper candles lit for suppertime. But it is also so calm. We spend more time chatting and digesting and not rush-rush-rushing.
It has been a long time since we’ve used candles at our house. With babies and toddlers, lighting candles was just not a priority at all. But I like getting back into it!
I sell a lot of taper candles at the store. They are hand-dipped candles from Denmark. The colours are gorgeous.
A customer of mine invited me to her house to snap a few photos of her candles – they are so pretty along a mantle.
Spring is coming. Warmer days are ahead. Until then, make the most of this late winter weather. Enjoy the last of your comfort meals and take comfort in know pushing the clock ahead means, soon enough, we’ll be putting our boots away and taking out flip flops and t-shirts.
