I’d like to start an Inspiration Board at home. A place for our family to share their ideas and to encourage imagination. My kids are still little. Ages 8 and 4 ½. Their imaginations are always running. I know because the ideas are always spilling out of their mouths. First thing in the morning and last thing at night when we are coaxing them to sleep with back tickles.
I’m always saying how we should write that down or look that up. It seems I’m always promising we’ll get to it on the weekend. And then the days go by and we’ve forgotten all about the very things that inspired us in the first place.
As for myself, I’m always finding pictures in magazines, scraps of fabric and wrapping paper and phrases and quotes that inspire me. Whether it’s a craft with the kids, a DIY project or a new paint colour for the front hall, the ideas come and then they escape me. The days seem to fill up pretty fast and it is this busy busy that contributes to the fizzling out of our inspirations.
But, if we had a central place where all four of us could connect and share, maybe we would find time to follow through and turn those inspirations into shared experiences. Moments that would find us doing something creative together.
I will head out this weekend for a cork board and then I’ll paint the frame a pretty colour. I’ve got Very Cute thumbtacks coming to the store sometime soon.
I hope our Inspiration Board provides a landing strip for all those great ideas we come up with, the whispered questions to life’s great mysteries that come at bedtime and all those inspirations that make up our collective imaginations.
Check back next week and I’ll post a picture of our Inspiration Board!
